The Town of Black Earth’s Building Inspector is Tracy Johnson.
All required building inspections must be performed by the building inspector.

Building permits REQUIRED for:


NEW SINGLE-FAMILY HOME/DUPLEX
 – Sanitary Permit from County Health Department
– Zoning Permit from Dane County – (608) 266-4266
– Driveway Permit
– 2 sets of complete building plans (include wall section, window, and door schedule)
– 2 copies of the site plan (all setbacks, lot size, building location)
– 1 copy of Thermal performance sheets (heat loss calculations)
– 2 copies of the Erosion Control Plan shown on the site plan (access drive, silt fence, and stockpiles)
– Applicants can apply and pay for their permits online through the website:  www.jiportal.com

ADDITIONS, REMODELS, ACCESSORY BUILDINGS, DECKS & SWIMMING POOLS
– Zoning Permit from Dane County – (608) 266-4266
– Site evaluation from the Dane County Health Department if there is an increase in contaminant/wastewater load or a bedroom is added (See DSPS 383)
– 2 sets of building plans (including setbacks and existing structures)
– 2 copies of the Erosion Control Plan shown on the survey
– Applicants can apply and pay for their permits online through the website:  www.jiportal.com

COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS, REMODELS, AND ADDITIONS
– Driveway Permit
– Sanitary and Zoning Permits as required from Dane County – (608) 266-4266
– 2 sets of State approved building plans and description of the building
– 2 copies of the survey of the property showing all buildings located on it to scale
– Applicants can apply and pay for their permits online through the website:  www.jiportal.com

AGRICULTURAL BUILDINGS
 – Zoning Permit, if required, from Dane County – (608) 266-4266
– Administrative Building Permit (No building, HVAC, or Plumbing inspections required)
– Electric Permit and inspections are required per DSPS 316.
