The Town of Black Earth in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public involvement meeting to discuss details and schedule for the replacement of the Reeve Road Bridge over Blue Mounds Creek in Dane County.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Black Earth Village Hall at 1210 Mills St, Black Earth, WI 53515. The objective of this meeting is to familiarize the public with the purpose and need for the project and to obtain input on the proposed improvements.
Project Need
Reeve Road Bridge (P-13-131) over E Branch Blue Mounds Creek is a small, concrete deck, steel girder, single span bridge in the Town of Black Earth, Dane County. The bridge was constructed in 1974 and has not received any additional work since then other than a maintenance shoulder sweep in 2023. The existing roadway is a rural local street that consists of two 10-foot wide lanes.
The existing bridge is experiencing significant deterioration, receiving a NBI rating of 4, poor condition and sufficiency score of 60.4 per the latest inspection report. The steel girders show rust near the abutments. The concrete deck shows delamination, spalling, and cracking. Most significantly, the timber abutments are rotted and decaying and at least one of the timber piles is completely decayed and crushed.
Project Description
The proposed project will consist of the removal and replacement of the existing bridge and approximately 290-feet of approach work to the west of the bridge and 125-feet of approach work to the east of the bridge. Beam guards will be upgraded on both sides of the bridge to meet current safety standards.
